Jan Bytnar

On 26 April 1997, the school accepted the name of scoutmaster Jan Bytnar "Rudy" - the hero of the most famous book about occupied Warsaw ( "The Stones on Entrenchment" by Alexander Kamiński), one of the members of famous actions of "small sabotage", died as a result of injuries received during bestial investigation. "Mother's Diary", written by his mother as a remembrance about Janek Bytnar, was given to printing on the initiative of the workers of our school.

Jan Bytnar was born on 6 May 1921. He was brought up in the family of patriotic traditions. His father being the participant of fights for independence, has passed to his son many virtues which ruled his own life. Janek, as a young boy began understanding the sense of the national independence fight. Acting in the ranks of scouting, he was distinguished by his enthusiasm and courage, receiving initially the pseudonym "Black". Later, he was given a promotion to Second Lieutenant of the Home Army for his activity, becoming the commander of platoon of Assault Groups and the member of underground organization WAWER. "RUDY" was his new pseudonym. Arrested in 1943, he was placed in Szucha Alley, where he was bestially tortured by Schulz, the member of the Gestapo (he was given the death sentence and executed during the action "MEKSYK III" on 6 May 1943). During the transportation of Janek Bytnar from Szucha Avenue to Pawiak on 26 March 1943, he was rescued in a famous "Arsenal action" by an assault group of the Szare szeregi ("the Grey Ranks") commanded by Stanisław Broniewski. Janek died on 30 March 1943 of the wounds sustained during the interrogations by the Gestapo.
